The discipline aims to familiarise students with the concept of dynamic spectrum access. The reasons for the emergence of this concept are clarified. Details of various existing and emerging standards based on dynamic spectrum access principles are presented. Several spectral sensing methods are discussed, with emphasis on the most popular of these methods, energy sensing.
