Natural Language Processing in Assistive Technologies
Course Holder: Prof. dr. eng. Inge GAVĂT
Laboratory holder: Ș.l dr. eng. Andreea GRIPARIS
The course follows in the first part the stages of natural language processing in order to realize speech recognition and synthesis systems and continues in the second part with the application of these systems in assistive technologies: systems for the elimination of pronunciation defects in the native language (speech therapy) or in foreign languages; systems for severe hearing protection with cochlear implants, or less severe with hearing aids; writing after dictation, for people who see but do not hear, for medical protocols, or secretarial work; verbalization of written information in e-mails or other documents for those who cannot read or for business; assistive systems for the vocal handling of home appliances.
In the laboratory, speech recognition and synthesis systems will be developed, and for groups of 2-3 students an assistive software application inspired by a scientific article from a specialized journal will be developed.
