Service and network planning
Course Holder: Prof. dr. eng. Lucian IOAN
Laboratory holder: Prof. dr. eng. Lucian IOAN
The course aims to familiarize students with the main aspects of the communication network planning process. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of practical methods, accompanied by examples, on service and traffic characterisation and forecasting, topology design, optimisation and fault tolerance. These techniques are applied whenever designers need to decide what needs to be done to develop or upgrade the network, when changes need to be made and what activities need to be carried out accordingly. The applications of the subject aim to solve case studies using procedures appropriate to the subject and presented in the lectures. The specific objectives are: knowledge of current planning principles and methods for access and transport networks; acquisition of the necessary knowledge for the development and implementation of communication services and networks; knowledge of decision-making criteria according to possible network development cases in order to ensure quality of service standards.
