Guide for the first days at ETTI

Welcome to the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ETTI)!
We know that the start of university life comes with many questions and emotions, and the first few weeks can seem challenging.

To make your transition easier, we have prepared this guide to provide you with clear, useful guidelines for your integration into the academic community.

Breakdown into groups

At the beginning of the academic year, each student is assigned to a series, group and semigroup. This information is no longer publicly displayed, but can be consulted on the students.pub.ro.

The structure is as follows:

  • Series - a larger set of groups (e.g. series A or B).
  • Group - the basic unit for seminars and projects (e.g. 411A).
  • Semigroup - group subdivision for laboratories (e.g.: 411Aa means Faculty 4 = ETTI, year 1, group 1, series A, semigroup a).

This organization allows more efficient teaching activities.

Timetable interpretation

The timetable includes compulsory, optional and elective activities and is structured around courses, seminars and laboratories.

  • Courses run for the whole series.
  • Seminars and laboratories are organized by groups.
  • The presence of the "/" symbol marks the parity of the weeks: the top left indicates odd weeks (1,3,5,7,9,11,13) and the bottom right indicates even weeks (2,4,6,8,10,12,14).
  • The first week of teaching is considered week 1.

Note: In Sheet AN1 - Announcements you can find additional information about optional subjects, free electives or rooms not directly listed in the timetable.

Location of lecture, seminar and laboratory rooms

ETTI rooms follow a standardized coding system:

  • Letter A or B - the body of the building:
    • A - building A (8-storey building, "Lion A")
    • B - Building B (3-storey building, "Lion B")
  • First digit - floor.
  • Last two figures - room number.
  • A101 = building A, 1st floor, room 01.
  • B312 = building B, 3rd floor, room 12.

Warning: some courses and laboratories can be held in other locations of the University POLITEHNICA Bucharest. If the room has codes such as AN, BN, P or other letters, they are in "The new local or in Polizunot in the Leo A/B buildings.

Secretariat and faculty management

The ETTI secretariat is your point of contact for any administrative matters: certificates, school reports, scholarships or official documents.

Before going to the secretariat, consult the Secretariat Procedures (https://etti.upb.ro/studenti/proceduri-secretariat/), where you can find clear instructions on how to apply (most applications are submitted online (via the https://studenti.pub.ro/(no need to be physically present at the counter).

The faculty is led by:

  • Dean of Faculty
  • Prodecanswith academic, administrative and international responsibilities
  • Heads of departments

Contact details and responsibilities of each member are available all the time here on the website.

Optional courses and free electives

During your studies, you'll be able to personalize your academic path by choosing subjects:

  • Optional courses are part of the curriculum and can be chosen from a list of subjects similar in type. Allocation is made on the basis of the options expressed by the students and, in some cases, on the basis of the average obtained. The related credits are needed to complete the 30 compulsory credits per semester.
  • Freely chosen courses are optional and offer extra credit points over and above the minimum number required. They are an opportunity to explore new areas and diversify your professional training.

These subject categories allow you to explore new areas, diversify your knowledge and shape your career profile according to your interests.

Useful platforms and resources

ETTI students are provided with online resources to support their academic work and current information:

Our social networks are not just communication channels, but real communities that connect students to resources, events and opportunities that bring them closer to success.

Knowing how to be assigned to groups and semigroups, correctly interpreting the timetable, identifying the rooms and accessing the services of the secretariat and the faculty management are fundamental steps for a quick integration into the academic life at ETTI.

We wish you every success and assure you that the whole ETTI community is here to support you!
